The portrait of Jennifer is one of the many profiles that Gottlieb has painted. Gottlieb finds profiles to be often as pleasing if not more so than a 3/4 portrait or one that is head on. Depending on the lighting and the characteristics of the portrait subject, Gottlieb may prefer one orientation over another. Jennifer was painted during one of Gottlieb’s earlier classes in 2007 when he had a small group of students that would paint with him in his studio and observe him during the entire process of making a painting. The classes would meet for 10 sessions from the beginning of the initial drawing to the painting’s finish. In addition to being sold to a private collector, Gottlieb’s portrait of Jennifer was chosen as 2nd place winner at the Portrait Society of America in 2008 and is also the cover of the Italian book “L’Amore Rubato” by Dacia Maraini.
